The Turkish press recently published news items regarding the Turkish state’s acceptance of the counter-guerilla organisation JITEM. They had been denying the existence of the Special War organisation for many years. The editorials run by the Turkish media and especially the AKP media portrayed this development in an exagerrated manner, as if they had ‘rediscovered America.’
Keep the Kurds poor! The politics of development in Turkey’s Kurdish’ regions
Nina Henkens, May 2011 - The Kurds do not enjoy great fame and if they are spoken of, it is often
done in non-flattering terms like 'terrorists' or ' separatists'. But
there is more to it. The Kurdish region is chronically underdeveloped.
The attempts of the Turkish government to invest in the region, without
any real participation of the local population, are having little or no
effect. The armed conflict that has decreased in intensity the last
years has had very negative consequences on the economical situation in
the east of Turkey. Also international, neo-liberal reforms did not do
any good for the durable development of the region.

Hevallo - In 1993, Hevallo interviewed a young Kurdish woman journalist about an
hour after she had been driven to a quiet spot outside Diyarbakir, with a
hood still on her head and had a gun placed underneath her chin she was
told this was the moment she was going to die.
Nina Katrien Henkens- The vicious circle of violence' forced migration - poverty - violence' Poverty as the result of violence and discrimination against Kurdish people. The situation of Kurdish children in Turkey is distressful. There aren't much talks about this but it is a known fact and it is written down in thousands of pages and reported by professionals and people who can say that they are 'competent' to talk about this subject. For example, In January 2010 a 160-pages-long report has been published by the Kurdish Human Rights Project ( KHRP) about the situation of Kurdish children in Turkey.
