Director Ömer Lütfi Akad remembered
Ömer Lütfi Akad, Director of memorable Turkish films, has died on 19 November at the age of 95. The first funeral ceremony for Akad has been held today at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSÜ) Cinema and Television Department where he has given lecture for more than 20 years. Following a second funeral ceremony at Levent Mosque, Akad has been buried at Ulus Cemetery in Istanbul.

Court in Istanbul ask to send lawyers to prison
A Court in Istanbul has asked that 41 lawyers are remanded in custody. The lawyers, belonging to the Asrın Hukuk Bürosu and representing Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan have been detained on Tuesday.

Academics worried about freedom of expression in Turkey
Several academics warned that academic work in Turkey is being constrained. The academics pointed to a restriction of freedom of expression and education/teaching in an oppressive environment that is created by "arbitrary" police custody and long detention periods.
