A group of Iranian women’s rights activists have announced that Tuesday,
March 8, the International Women’s Day, will be a “day of protest”
against gender inequality.The announcement, which has been signed by 300
women’s rights activists and their supporters, echo the earlier
statement from Shirin Ebadi, who called for the day of protest on behalf
of Iranian men and women who have been struggling against oppression,
stressing that their fight for equal rights can only be realized with a
democratic government.
Criminal Report from Turkish Equality and Democracy Party
The women’s branch of the Turkish Equality and Democracy Party (EDP)
made a criminal complaint in relation to Prof. Dr. Orhan Çeker to Izmir
Chief Public Prosecutor. EDP Izmir Women Council made a press release in
order to protest Prof. Dr Orhan Ceker’s speech in which he stated that
“if women wear low-cut clothing, they will be raped” in front of Izmir
Judicial Court in Bayrakli.

Server Dilkol read the statement: “The press is the most responsible figure in this problem for advertising sexual harassment or rape against women or using them to sell more papers or to raise their ratings. Its also part of male domination like the capitalist system itself.”
Kurdish Info - 2010 was yet another black year as far as women killing was concerned in Turkey. According to the figures, 16 women were mercilessly murdered mostly by people close to them, namely husbands, fathers, boyfriends or brothers. during village raids has been a scandal. Many of the victims of sexual
torture dare not speak of their experiences, because of the dishonor
associated with rape and sexual violation in traditional communities. As
RAWA wrote way back in 2002, “Given the social and legal penalties for
speaking out, it is a reasonable assumption that the documented cases of
rape and sexual torture of Kurdish women represent the tip of the
iceberg.
A weird suggestion to solve the Kurdish question from Mayor of Rize
Kurdish Info 01.07.2010- Halil Bakirci, Mayor of Rize from Justice and Development Party (AKP),
suggested to men that if they chose second wives from the eastern part
of Turkey, increasing such relationships is going to decrease the
conflict between Kurds and Turks. This weird suggestion has been found
to be racist and sexist by women who strongly reacted against it.
