The National-A series of reported human rights abuses by Turkish policemen and accusations of a “culture of impunity” that shields wrongdoers in the force from being punished have shaken public trust in the institution so deeply that many citizens are afraid of the officers that are supposed to protect them, critics say.

Europe News 09.12.2008-The draft report presented Tuesday in the European Parliament seems to definitely abandon the prospect of Turkey’s progress as well as its accession perspective.The Member of the European Parliament Ria Oomen-Ruijten (European Popular Party, Conservative, Netherlands) presented on Tuesday the draft version of her 2008 report on Turkey in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament. Significantly, this presentation occurred late in front of a sparse assembly of Turkey’s supportive MEPs and of Anatolian journalists.

Xinhua - The European Union on Monday urged Turkey to step up political reforms, make further efforts to pursue judicial reform, and establish an anti-corruption strategy on the path to join the 27-member bloc.In a review of Turkey's progress toward gaining EU membership, the EU foreign ministers said on Monday that they noted with regret "Turkey has achieved during the past year, only limited progress, particularly with regard to political reforms."

Kurdish Info -The People’s Union of Kurdistan (KCK ) Executive Council and Kongra Gel have stated they will stop military actions during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. KCK and Kongra Gel stated that even though the Turkish and Iranian armies continued their attacks against them they will not retaliate and stop their military operations during the coming up celebrations. In a joint press statement issued by KCK Executive Council and Kongra Gel, both organisations declared a unilateral cease-fire during the celebrations in the Middle East.

EUTCC Statement-Kurdish Spokesperson and EUTCC Patron Leyla Zana Convicted to Ten Years in Prison by a Turkish Court -Leyla Zana, a well know political spokesperson for the Kurds in Turkey, was Thursday convicted to ten years in prison by a Turkish Court in Diyarbakir. The court ruled that Leyla Zana had violated the penal code and the anti-terror law in nine different speeches.

350 'honor killings' in Turkey since 2001 - new study
AFP 05.12.2008-Honor killings have claimed the lives of nearly 350 men and women in Turkey since 2001, a report said on Thursday. Drawing on data from completed court cases, a study by Inonu University in Malatya, eastern Turkey, found that 344 murders including 288 of women were committed since 2001 with the intention of "cleansing honor," the official Anatolia news agency said.
Karayilan: Caling "PKK to quit arms" is an attempt to pasify the PKK

Karayilan stated that a solution without the PKK or the condition that the PKK must quit arms in order for a soultion to become viable is absurd.
